Rev. Barry Downing - Religion and UFOs

Rev. Barry Downing, author of The Bible and Flying Saucers, discusses the relationship between UFOs and religion in this clip from an interview I conducted with him for Stanton T. Friedman is Real in 2001, in Irvine, California, where he was speaking at the 2001 MUFON Symposium.

I disagreed with virtually everything Downing said. I honestly don't even know where to start. But he seems like a likable, sincere guy. I'd like to talk it up with him over espresso!

I agree that the Bible has a lot to tell us about the identity of these UFOs if they are inded as Barry Downing beleives,
the angels of God. There are however good & evil angels. The Abduction phenomenon and the creation of hybrids are dark events . We interviwed Downing for a ground breaking documentary on the biblical perspective on the UFO phenomenon, have a look at : www.thinkagainproductions.com

the fields of ufo reports and investigations has been the most vilified and ridiculed issue of any science.. i admire carl sagan for his books, tv presentations and film.. just when i believed he might be on board with an intelligent investigation of ufos, he lumps ufos in with the occult, paranormal and pseudo-sciences.. ufo investigations have accumulated more evidence than many the well-respected fields of quantum theory, string theory, et.al.. these fields are 100% theoretical-- no evidence has been presented to document these theories (string theory, multiple universes, extra-dimensional planes), yet they are highly prestigious areas of inquiry.. they get good press, ufos get the national enquirer.. the aggregate evidence is beyond turning one's eyes away from the supposedly
"laughable".. the witnesses, the radar tracks, the ground evidence is so overwhelming, how can
"legitimate" science turn its head? either "real" scientists are delusional, and i dont think so, or, they know more than they are telling; while its not likely, i believe its more probable.. there are reasons to believe this.. if ufos are genuine, what does that say for our scientific infra-structure? is it real? would we have a need for our current scientists at that point? wouldnt we merely ask the aliens for an answer or a solution? this would displace our science and our scientists from their perch and their respectability.. or, maybe theyre in cahoots with the govt.. the astronomers know the truth, so does the dept. of defense, were the only nones outside the loop.. or maybe not.. there have been too many stories of people in and out of govt. who spoke of strange aircraft, or corpses or other unusual phenomena.. so, whats the answer? i dont have a clue.. i know that we are ignorant of what constitutes nearly all of the universe.. i know there are observations by reasonable, sober, trusted people to dismiss them as publicity-hungry shut-ins.. i know nearly all of ufos can be truely explained as normal objects mistaken for something else.. i also know that for ufo skeptics to prevail, they must be right 100% of the time, against all witnesses, drawings, ground residue, literary references, etc.. for those who believe there is something out there that is intelligent and curious about us, we need only be right one time in millions of cases.. i dont necessarily believe in ufos.. i believe there are things going on we dont understand, that the govt. is hiding from us and has hidden from us since long before the incident at roswell.. i want to know the truth, once and for all.. whether its yea or nay, i want to know whats happening.. i want to know what the fed. govt. knows and when did they know it..

I believe Barry is trying to reach a crowd that uses reasoning mixed with science & faith to build a bridge that will bring those who seek understanding to come to a better
and greater hope for mankind

I don't know. His views are kind of radical and aren't that much substantial. Sure, we cannot disprove him, but can he prove himself?

I have just started reading Downings book"The Bible and Flying Saucers" written in 1968. And I think the man had brilliant insights years before these newer ancient astronaut theorists. Just read his first chapter and I'm sure you will agree the man needs to be listened to. I would REALLY like him to to write another updated book about the UFOs etc.

Only recently stumbled across Barry Downing's astonishing, brilliant book, "The Bible and Flying Saucers", at, of all places, my local church! And I am simply transfixed, blown away by his thesis and 'argument', which, among other 'things', powerfully, cogently, coherently and thoroughly rebuts, refutes and demolishes the 60s' mainstay of modern-day, theological "Death of God" theorists, Bishop John Robinson's book of the same name; while forming an unexpected and dramatic link - incredibly and self-evidently wholly beyond the author's intention and/or ability, with some of the dynamic, dynamite material in Michael Drosnin's "The Bible Code:2", published in 2002, and sequel to his equally sensational - not so much as in dramatic or far-fetched, but as in incredible and simply amazing - TBC.

Would therefore greatly appreciate (for reasons involving all the foregoing, or moreover what I see as their logical implications) somehow making contact with Dr Barry Downing himself, if that is at all possible...
I think he - and even more, perhaps, Michael Drosnin - will be stunned by what I have to share: not my own great revelations or insights, but rather the 'threads' - connecting those two ground-breaking works - that I've been able to - naturally, even rather easily, but not simplistically - draw (together) from the aforementioned.

If this is possible, it would mean an awful lot to me. I am

Sincerely Yours,

P.S. Looking forward hopefully...

I'm not going to write an epic on why I believe Barry Downing's interpretation of Biblical texts, just to say he holds my thoughts absolutely. How else can you make sense of the senseless? It's time people woke up to the inevitable - that people have been purposely misled and lied to regarding Christianity and the Bible.
