Stanton T. Friedman - Part III (Marcel and Brazel)

In this episode of my ongoing interview series with Stan Friedman, recorded on September 12 and 13, 2001, Stan talks about two of the key witnesses to the Roswell incident, Major Jesse Marcel, and Mack Brazel. Along the way, he also takes a few shots at Karl Pflock, Colonel Richard Weaver, Captain Sheridan Cavitt, and Robert Todd, for reasons which I think are pretty clear, and which I address in my introduction.

I think a leavened approach to your work in the long view reminds me of Matthew Brady or a Ken Burns from a historical point of view that wont be appreciated fully for some time.
However, you seemed to be expanding your horizons, especially when you commented your were more interested in the sociological aspects of the phenomenon as well as taking up other aspects of the paranormal, which I was hoping would continue, as it would be interesting to see your approach in terms of a potential film, so I am not sure what this retrospective represents. For my tens cents this has been done to death for decades. I would enjoy an extensive interview with Lesley Kean. I think you are more than qualified, so what gives with this?

Hey, Paul - Thanks for all the Stan Friedman stuff! I don't think I possess any UFO-related tapes from the 1990's that don't feature Stan somewhere on them!
Did August 27th finally become officially Stan's honorary day in Halifax?

Bruce,
I have boxes upon boxes of tapes from interviews I shot over the past ten years, and I'm slowly working my way through them, as time allows. While I don't think that an alien spacecraft crashed at Roswell, and I think further research on the "case" is pointless, I recognize it as an important historical and cultural touchstone, so I posted some Stan material first. Simple as that. The great thing about being self-employed, and doing this as a hobby, is that I can do what I like. :-)

Dia,
Not in Halifax, but I think Fredericton, his hometown for the past 30+ years, honoured him somehow a year or two ago.

Paul,
That was my take as well in regard to the historical nature of the phenomenon and that incident in particular. Are you planning anything in regard to a documentary on ghost phenomenon? It is great to do what one likes and at times it's just as great to not do something or feel compelled to do so. One of these days I would be surprised not to see a biography of Stanton at some future time. He's quite a character in this story.

Hi Bruce,

There's already a very good doc on Stan - I know, because I made it back in 2001-02 (which is we're I'm culling the current material from - interviews that were recorded for but not used in that film). It's call Stanton T. Friedman IS Real! and if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, it's available in its entirety on-line courtesy of our distributor.

I can't see ever doing a doc on ghosts. Having hosted 13 episodes of a ghost investigating series, I think I can safely say "veni, vidi, vici" re: ghosts and filmmaking, at least as far as I'm concerned. Private interest remains, but it will also remain just that - private.

Now NDEs - that might be interesting. However, if I had to pick a topic that might be at least loosely related to the paranormal, it would be artificial intelligence, and post-humanism. And that's not really paranormal like ghosts - it's just paranormal in terms of how we view ourselves, and what our future might hold. Which is what I find more interesting these days.

Of course, I have a travel show and a dating series in development, so it could be a while before I get back to anything paranormal. Between dealing with the paranormal and the majority of the people associated with it on the one hand, or travel to all sorts of cool places around the globe, I'm pretty sure I will happily choose the travel.

Or even the dating show...
