Memories of Mac

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about Mac Tonnies, who died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 34 last October. Mac was one of my best friends, and I miss him a great deal. Last November, Nick Redfern and I joined Greg Bishop on Greg’s Radio Misterioso radio show to remember our friend. Here is an excerpt that I enjoy, and that captures the essence of how we all felt about Mac. At the end, instead of the usual Other Side of Truth theme music (from Space: 1999), I’ve added a version of one of our favourite songs, the Smiths “There is a Light That Never Goes Out,” by the Vitamin String Quartet.

To hear the full episode, go to Radio Misterioso.

It's still amazing that the passing of someone known only from his blogs could have deeply touched so many. I think that says something profound about the nature of the blogosphere.

I still have Mac's blogs bookmarked and haven't been able to make myself delete them yet.

We should probably name August 20th as the "Mac Tonnies Day" —you know, among us Fortean bloggers.

PS: And someone should *really* think about compiling all that good stuff in Mac's blog to print a book. It could be called the "Posthuman Blues Anthology" or something —because while Mac's blog is still up, I would feel a lot better knowing that his thoughts were preserved in a more tangible format, for future generations to share... even if the printed book is in itself something of an endangered species ;)
