Some Sage Advice

The late Karl Pflock, in an interview I conducted with him on September 9, 2001, talking about what's wrong with UFO research.

He was right then; sadly, he's still right now.

Yep, in 2001 Greer was an embarrassment and a fraud, and in 2009 Greer is still an embarrassment and a fraud.

Paul I recently listened to an episode of Radio Misterioso featuring yourself and Mac Tonnies. (It was a really great conversation BTW, I urge everyone to check it out http://www.radio4all.net/index.php/contributor/1536 )

Anyway, in this conversation someone brought up the possibility that Greer is actually a disinformation agent. I found that idea extremely plausible. When we look at some of the idiocy of Greer his actions look mighty suspicious.

Have you seen this angle explored anywhere else Paul? How do you feel about that possibility now?

For anyone that forgets: Greer, at the NPC in 2001 with such loonies as Clifford Stone, attempted to convince the media that not only are UFOs real and come from other planets. No that wasn't enough... his main thrust was the DE-WEAPONISATION OF SPACE!!

Gareth,

I've heard at least a couple of respected UFO researchers posit that Greer in particular, and the exopols in general, might be disinfo agents. Personally, I doubt it. I think they're just a combination of nuts, frauds, and true believers. There's enough of all of those types out there that the government doesn't need to get involved anymore. ;-)

Paul,
I think the issue of loose canons and the lack of hard science is a circular "Catch 22" where sociology and cultural anthropology join hands.
Whether Betty and Barney Hill were or were not abducted, it was the shot heard round the world, that in turn became a fictionalized film starring James Earl Jones. It was Gregory Bateson who said if a meme is repeated long enough, it becomes a cultural truism whether it is fact or fiction. Belief systems whether it is consumerism, religion,or Ufology seem to back fill the gaps in our knowledge, and so hard science places it in this sociological frame, rather than on it's own merits. Round and round we go. I think your posting this is an important part of discerning the short circuiting of further study.
